National Chung Cheng University's Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-tech Innovations (AIM-HI) Takes the Global Stage by Hosting an International Workshop at IEEE/ASME AIM 2026

The Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-tech Innovations (AIM-HI) at National Chung Cheng University (CCU) has actively promoted international collaboration and academic exchange in recent years. Through faculty exchanges, joint research projects, international conferences, and talent exchange programs with leading universities and research institutions across the United States, Europe, and Asia, AIM-HI has continued to expand its global collaborative network in smart manufacturing.

On July 7, 2026, AIM-HI reached another international milestone by successfully organizing an official international workshop at the 2026 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2026), hosted by the University of Genoa in Italy. The event showcased the institute's sustained commitment to cutting-edge research in smart manufacturing and its growing contribution to international academic collaboration.

International Workshop at a Premier Global Event in Intelligent Mechatronics Inspires New Perspectives on Human-like Intelligence

The IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM) is one of the world's leading academic conferences in mechatronics, smart manufacturing, robotics, automation, control, and artificial intelligence. Since its inception in 1997, the conference has attracted distinguished researchers, leading academic institutions, and industry experts from around the globe, serving as an important platform for presenting pioneering research and fostering international collaboration. Held in Genoa, Italy, AIM 2026 brought together participants from academia and industry to discuss the latest developments and future trends in smart manufacturing and robotic technologies.

Organized by AIM-HI, the international workshop was themed "Human-like Intelligence for Future Manufacturing." The workshop focused on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, intelligent robotics, autonomous control, and smart manufacturing, exploring how human-like intelligence can be integrated into future manufacturing environments to enable smart factories featuring autonomous decision-making, human-robot collaboration, and highly flexible production systems.

The workshop brought together four internationally renowned scholars from Taiwan and Italy, who presented their latest research on autonomous manufacturing systems, manufacturing knowledge management, and intelligent sensing technologies. The workshop was chaired by Professor Yong-Song Chen, Director of the International Affairs Division of AIM-HI and Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Chung Cheng University, who coordinated the keynote presentations and panel discussions.

Each presentation stimulated lively discussions among participants. Attendees noted that the workshop provided valuable insights into the latest international research trends and offered inspiring perspectives on the practical applications and future development of artificial intelligence in smart manufacturing.

AIM-HI emphasized that hosting this international workshop not only established a valuable platform for academic exchange between National Chung Cheng University and leading international scholars but also created new opportunities for future collaboration. During the visit to Italy, the delegation also visited two prestigious universities—Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino—with the goal of strengthening partnerships between Taiwanese and European smart manufacturing research teams, thereby laying the foundation for future participation in large-scale European collaborative research projects.

Strengthening Global Partnerships and Building CCU's International Reputation in Smart Manufacturing

Professor Her-Terng Yau, Vice President of National Chung Cheng University, remarked that the successful organization of the official international workshop at IEEE/ASME AIM 2026 demonstrated the international recognition of the university's research achievements in smart manufacturing. Looking ahead, the university will continue advancing research in smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, advanced semiconductor manufacturing, and green manufacturing. It also aims to attract more international collaborative research projects and academic events to National Chung Cheng University, further enhancing the university's global visibility and academic influence in the field of smart manufacturing.
