To promote experience sharing and foster inter-university collaboration in University Social Responsibility (USR), the USR team from Chang Jung Christian University visited National Chung Cheng University (CCU) on June 24 for an academic and practical exchange program. The two universities engaged in in-depth discussions on USR strategies, university governance, talent cultivation, and local engagement, while exploring future directions for sustainable USR development through project sharing and field visits.

Professor Shin-Yuan Hung, Vice President of National Chung Cheng University and Director of the USR Office, warmly welcomed the delegation. In his remarks, Vice President Hung emphasized that USR has become a core value of higher education. Universities today are expected not only to fulfill their missions of teaching and research, but also to actively respond to social needs through interdisciplinary collaboration and local engagement, thereby cultivating socially responsible talent. He expressed confidence that the exchange would facilitate mutual learning and establish long-term collaborative partnerships between the two institutions.

During the morning session, both universities shared their institutional experiences and USR achievements. CCU introduced its project, “Creating a Happy Aging Society: An Interdisciplinary Human Rights Practice Program,” which promotes age-friendly communities and human rights through cross-disciplinary collaboration. Another featured project, “Sustainable Talent Development for Tsou Indigenous Culture and Tribal Industries in Alishan,” highlighted years of engagement in indigenous cultural preservation, community development, and talent cultivation.

Chang Jung Christian University presented several USR projects, including the “Green Community Root and Sprout Action Program,” “Sustainable Development in Liugui District,” and “Social Innovation and Green Economy: Toward Sustainable Community Development.” These projects demonstrated the university’s long-term commitment to local revitalization, environmental sustainability, and social innovation.

In the afternoon, participants visited local sites in Minxiong Township under the guidance of CCU’s USR HUB “Local Culture Research Base.” Through visits to community spaces and cultural sites, participants exchanged experiences in community engagement, cultural preservation, and local partnership development. The field visit provided valuable insights into how universities can establish sustainable development models through long-term commitment and collaboration with local communities.

National Chung Cheng University noted that USR implementation not only emphasizes project outcomes but also values resource sharing and mutual learning among universities. Through site visits, project presentations, and face-to-face discussions, participating institutions were able to learn from one another and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Looking ahead, CCU will continue to strengthen cooperation with other universities through the USR Alliance and inter-university exchange mechanisms. By promoting resource sharing, field-based experience exchange, and collaborative talent cultivation, universities can work together to advance social responsibility and contribute to local revitalization and sustainable development.
