Rowing for Love and Learning to Communicate: CCU Event at Datan Xingang Sets Hearts in Motion
[XINGANG, CHIAYI] – Set against the gentle breeze of Datan in Xingang, a unique event titled "Universal Love: Kayaking and Lure Fishing" officially kicked off. Organized by National Chung Cheng University (CCU), this gathering was more than just a day of water sports; it served as a profound journey of the heart centered on "Communication and Anti-Bullying" advocacy.
Fresh Catch and Warm Hearts: Nourishing the Local Community On April 19, more than 100 participants took to the water for kayaking, while 50 anglers competed along the banks in a lure fishing tournament. In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the day’s catch was donated to the Datan Senior Community Kitchen and nearby nursing homes. Transformed into bowls of hot, nutritious fish soup, the initiative embodied the true essence of community sharing and care for the elderly.
Professor Ming-Jie Lin: Anti-Bullying Starts with Self-Transformation Professor Ming-Jie Lin, who dedicated 30 years to preventing domestic violence and addiction, shared his insights at the scene. He emphasized that social peace could not be achieved through passive waiting; rather, it had to begin with each individual learning to "love others equally."
During the event, Professor Lin posed a poignant question to the audience of grandparents, parents, and children: "Should we wait for our grandchildren to change, or should we be the ones to change first?" The crowd responded with a resounding, "We will change first." This surge of positive energy, he noted, was the ultimate remedy for eliminating bullying in society.
Learning Through Play: The Five-Stage Challenge The most vibrant part of the event was the "Frisbee Communication Challenge." Participants progressed from initial confusion to mastering synchronized movements by discussing shared principles. Through laughter and teamwork, attendees learned the core of effective communication: "mutually considering each other’s needs."
Student-Led Heritage Tours and Regional Impact The final stages of the event featured guided tours of the historic Jingzhong Temple and the Lin Tong-xi Ancient House. These tours were led by CCU students from the "Advocacy for Morality and Communication Education" course, successfully bridging academic learning with community engagement. This Sunday gathering combined sports, education, and public service, leaving a lasting and meaningful impact across the Yun-Chia-Nan (Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan) region.
