A Milestone for the Bilingual Program: Reflecting on Achievements and Charting the Path Forward
聞稿 National Chung Cheng University held the “Bilingual Program Showcase and Benchmarking Experience-Sharing Tea Gathering” on March 6, setting a significant milestone in the fifth-year implementation of the Bilingual Education Program for College Students. The event highlighted the university’s progress in EMI faculty development and administrative support mechanisms, while bringing together faculty members and administrators from within and beyond the university to exchange insights and further strengthen cross-institutional collaboration in advancing institutionalized bilingual education.
The event took place at the Center for Language Studies and opened with remarks from President Tsai. The program also featured a keynote speech by Professor Shu-Chen Ou, the Provost at National Sun Yat-sen University, who shared the experiences and best practices of implementing a university-wide bilingual initiative. The event included presentations by outstanding EMI instructors on course design and a poster exhibition showcasing innovative teaching practices. A four-in-one roundtable session addressed key aspects of bilingual campus development, including faculty incentive systems, teacher training, event planning, and administrative support structures, offering a comprehensive overview of the university’s integrated approach to bilingual education.
President Tsai noted, “To accomplish the right things, we are not afraid of difficulties.” Director Gina Chen of the Center further emphasized that, “In Minxiong, a non-metropolitan town, National Chung Cheng University has taken on the responsibility of narrowing urban–rural disparities through sustained efforts to build a bilingual campus. This achievement sharing event marks an important milestone in the fifth year of the program and lays a strong foundation for our internationalization.”
To ensure continuous teaching quality, the university’s institutional resource center has also actively developed an EMI Teacher Community of Practice across institutions as a platform for faculty professional development. Through cross-institutional exchanges, collaborative lesson planning, and classroom observation and feedback, instructors engage in dialogue on teaching strategies and course design while exploring effective EMI pedagogical models. This community-based mechanism not only promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty members but also gradually shapes bilingual learning as a new campus norm, allowing language learning and disciplinary knowledge to be naturally integrated in the classroom.
Through achievement showcases, faculty sharing sessions, and cross-institutional dialogue, National Chung Cheng University aims to further strengthen the bilingual education from strategic implementation toward sustainable development, while gradually shaping a model of bilingual education with regional influence and broader impact.
