Together, we sustain! National Chung Cheng University's 36th Anniversary Grandly Debuts
National Chung Cheng University's (CCU) 36th anniversary celebration was held at the university's athletic field on October 31. This year's theme, "Together, we sustain," symbolizes CCU's resilience in the face of challenges after the July typhoon and its pioneering spirit in creating a new beginning amidst change. For the first time, this year's anniversary celebration was concentrated into a single day, with non-stop activities from afternoon to night. The event featured a campus fair, inter-departmental competitions, a creative entrance performance, a cross-country race, a competitive cheerleading performance, and a themed fireworks show, showcasing the enthusiasm and unity of CCU's students and faculty.
President Tsai Shaw-Jenq specifically pointed out the unique significance of this year's competition medals. These medals were crafted from the precious wood of fallen trees, primarily the rare Taiwan Incense Cedar, which were toppled when Typhoon Danas severely damaged the campus in July. The university collected, polished, and repurposed these logs, which symbolize the campus's history, into commemorative medals engraved with the words "Ride the Wind and Rise, Glory to CCU." President Tsai stated, "These trees have been with CCU for over thirty years. Although they fell in the storm, their spirit continues with the victorious athletes, symbolizing the resilience and rebirth of our faculty and students. This perfectly echoes this year's anniversary theme—'Together, we sustain.'"
The anniversary activities were held entirely around the athletic field. The day began with a campus fair featuring student clubs, food stalls, and showcases from various colleges, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd. The "Inter-departmental Relay Race" at 2:00 PM and the "Softball Throw" at 3:00 PM brought the atmosphere to a fever pitch, with students and teachers cheering loudly. The "Creative Entrance Performance" and the opening ceremony at 6:00 PM were the main focus of the evening. Under the energetic guidance of Professor Lee Shu-fang from the Department of Athletics, all guests, faculty, and students stretched together on the field, turning the CCU spirit into passionate action.
Following this, the "University-wide Cross-Country Race: CCU Fireworks RUN" at 6:30 PM was a highlight of this year's sports events. Participants ran a 3.7km course along the athletic field and the main campus roads. In the student individual category (male and female), the top 150 finishers received a prize, with the top 6 also receiving a commemorative medal and a certificate. For the faculty and staff individual category (male and female), the top 25 received a prize, with the top 3 receiving a medal and a certificate. In the student group category, the top 3 teams in each group were awarded prizes, medals, and certificates to recognize their effort and teamwork.
At 8:30 PM, the grand finale, the "Anniversary Themed Fireworks," lit up the night sky over the athletic field, bringing the day-long celebration to a spectacular end. The brilliant display against the campus nightscape symbolized the beginning of a new chapter in CCU's 36-year history and embodied the blessings and hopes of all faculty and students. President Tsai stated that in the future, National Chung Cheng University will continue to deepen educational innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and social practice, making "Together, we sustain" the core driving force for CCU's journey toward excellence.
In addition to the university's faculty and students, over a hundred distinguished guests attended CCU’s 36th Anniversary Celebration activities, offering their congratulations and wishing the university continued prosperity.
