CCU College of Humanities Hosts International Forum and Cross-Cultural Workshop Scholars from Europe and Southeast Asia Gather for Dialogue
Supported by funding from the Ministry of Education’s World Top 100 Project, the College of Humanities at National Chung Cheng University (CCU) held two major international academic events in late September. On September 25, the College hosted the Europe and Southeast Asia Summit Forum, followed on September 26 by the workshop Gift: New Interpretations of Classics based on Cross-Domain Dialogue. Both events brought together distinguished scholars, including Professor Christian Soffel, Chair of the Department of Sinology at Trier University, Germany, and Professor Kurniawati, Vice Dean of the State University of Jakarta, to engage in meaningful international and interdisciplinary exchanges with CCU faculty and students.
The Europe and Southeast Asia Summit Forum opened with welcoming remarks by Dean Wen-Fang Mao of the College of Humanities, who introduced the honored guests, and was co-chaired by Vice Dean Wei-Chen Yang. The forum featured lively discussions and active participation. After the forum, Vice Dean Kurniawati and CCU Vice President for International Affairs Der-Hwa Victoria Rau signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the State University of Jakarta and CCU’s College of Humanities to deepen future collaboration. Professor Soffel also met with the Office of International Affairs to explore various models of cooperation before participating in the following day’s academic workshop.
Beyond the academic programs, the College arranged a series of cultural experiences. On September 27, Professor Soffel, accompanied by Professor Chuan-Cheng Su, Director of the Mazu Culture Research Center, visited the Xingang Fengtian Temple to learn about Taiwan’s religious traditions. On September 28, he attended the Confucius Ceremony organized by the Taichung City Government, experiencing firsthand Taiwan’s living Confucian heritage. The College of Humanities extends special thanks to distinguished alumnus Dr. Chun-Lung Chiang, Chairperson of the Hakka Affairs Council of Taichung City Government, for his generous support in facilitating this cultural exchange.
These activities showcased CCU’s commitment to promoting international academic collaboration and cultural dialogue, highlighting the College of Humanities as a hub for global scholarly engagement.
