From “Semiconductor Mandarin” to Global Internships: CCU International Day Showcases International Talent Incubation Hub

National Chung Cheng University (CCU) launched its International Day on April 14, highlighting a strategic initiative that connects language education with Taiwan’s high-tech sector. The event featured the signing of an MoU between the Fulbright Taiwan Foundation for Scholarly Exchange and the Center for Language Studies at CCU to co-develop “Mandarin for the Semiconductor Industry” teaching materials. Two additional international programs also commenced that day: the Ministry of Education’s Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) and a STEM summer camp co-hosted with Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna in Thailand—forming an integrated international talent incubation hub for global academic collaboration.
As more international students come to Taiwan to study semiconductors, the need for precise, industry-specific Mandarin has become increasingly clear. This new curriculum integrates technical content with language instruction, creating a practical model for specialized Mandarin learning. Developed jointly by Fulbright Taiwan and CCU’s Language Center, the materials will be refined through ongoing feedback to better meet the needs of both learners and industry stakeholders.
CCU President Dr. Shaw-Jenq Tsai remarked that the university has maintained long-term collaborations with industry leaders such as TSMC and Delta Electronics. He noted that this new intersection between Mandarin education and the semiconductor field not only deepens integration across teaching, research, and industry, but also enhances the distinctiveness and real-world value of Taiwan’s technological Mandarin instruction.
The signing was co-hosted by Dr. Gina Wen-Chun Chen, Director of Center for Language Studies, and Dr. Randall Nadeau, Executive Director of Fulbright Taiwan. Anne Foss, Cultural Affairs Officer at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), attended as an official witness.
TEEP and Thai STEM Camp Advance CCU’s Internationalization Goals
Also launched were CCU’s top-ranked TEEP initiative and the university’s latest collaboration with RMUTL—a STEM summer camp for Thai students. TEEP brings outstanding young scholars from around the world to Taiwan for immersive internships, fostering academic exchange and industry exposure. The program also paves the way for further study or employment in Taiwan, underscoring the importance of advanced Mandarin tailored to specific fields.
The STEM camp, led by CCU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, features an integrated curriculum combining engineering design, Mandarin and English learning, and cultural exchange. Its hands-on, immersive approach has attracted strong interest from Thai participants.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate CCU’s commitment to expanding international partnerships, cultivating bilingual talent, and enhancing global academic mobility. Looking ahead, the university will continue strengthening its role in sustainable and resilient international education.
