The 35th Anniversary Celebration: Grand Opening of the Special Book Launch and Campus Architecture Expo
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of CCU, a special commemorative book edited and curated by Professor Hsiu-Ling Kuo from the Department of History, College of Humanities, was officially launched on October 22 at the University History Hall in the library. During the event, Professor Hsiu-Ling Kuo, the chief editor of the book, shared insights into the creation and planning process of the publication. A formal book donation ceremony was also be held, along with a discussion featuring distinguished guests who explored the curatorial and design concepts behind the Campus Architecture Expo.
Professor Hsiu-Ling Kuo mentioned that the campus buildings of CCU, planned and constructed during its founding period, were designed by a group of Taiwan's most renowned contemporary architects. Their collaborative efforts resulted in the grand and striking architecture of CCU, which has since become an iconic example of campus architecture in Taiwan. Leading a research team, Professor Kuo compiled historical documents, oral histories, memorabilia, and valuable images, and meticulously analyzed them from a historical perspective to create this book. The publication of the work during the CCU's 35th anniversary holds special significance.
At the book launch event, President Shaw-Jenq Tsai, along with Professor Yi-Hsiung Chiang from the Academic Foundation and Vice President Wei-Chuang Chang from the Alumni Association, received the commemorative book from Professor Kuo and Library Director Professor Cheng-Shiun He. President Tsai expressed his gratitude, noting that the book's release coincides with the university’s 35th anniversary. He thanked Professor Kuo and her team from the Department of History for undertaking the demanding task of compiling the book, as well as the assistance from the Office of the Secretariat, the General Affairs Office, the College of Humanities, and the Library. Despite limited time, they managed to complete the anniversary book, providing CCU faculty and students with an opportunity to gain deeper insight into the campus architecture. He also recalled the notable attention the university received during its early years. As CCU celebrate the 35th anniversary, President Tsai expressed hope that the collective strength of the faculty and students will help overcome global challenges and geographical limitations, restoring the glory of CCU and writing a new, remarkable chapter for the future.
At the same time, the Campus Architecture Expo, curated by Professor Kuo and co-organized by the Library, is being held at the University History Hall on the 8th floor of the library. In celebration of the university’s 35th anniversary, it is hoped that we can all begin to deeply explore and appreciate the campus architecture that has accompanied us throughout our academic and research journeys.
