In recent years, online broadcasting of sports events has become quite popular among the public. Previously, athletes from National Chung Cheng University (CCU) participated in the Asian Para Games and won the championship, demonstrating the university’s dedication to cultivating sports talent. To promote sports events and nurture sports communication professionals, CCU’s Department of Athletic Sport (DAS) and Department of Communication have collaborated on the “2023 Ministry of Education Sports Administration Sports Communication Talent Development Program,” forming the CCU DAC team to assist the Sports Administration in promoting and marketing the National High School Games. President Shaw-Jenq Tsai stated that due to multimedia, sports event broadcasting channels have become more diversified. This interdisciplinary collaboration not only trains communication students in recording techniques but also allows the public to better understand different sports through broadcasts. Tsai mentioned, “In the past, sports events focused heavily on athletes winning awards. Now, with a broadcasting team, the training process of athletes can also be showcased, garnering more public attention post-competition.” This time, the broadcast will cover the archery competition at the National High School Games, aiming to raise awareness for this relatively less popular event. “Sports cannot thrive without communication, and with media, sports events can be transmitted far and wide,” said Professor Liao of the Department of Athletic Sport, the project leader. He noted that consuming media and live streaming online has become part of daily life. Sports events, through live streaming, allow spectators who cannot attend in person to share in the excitement, significantly increasing viewership and participation. Globally, the technology for sports broadcasting is continuously advancing, creating greater media opportunities. Liao mentioned that after the team is formed, they will broadcast the finals of the shooting event at the 2023 National High School Games in mid-April, using real events to cultivate sports communication talent. Liao explained that CCU has the Department of Athletic Sport and the Department of Communication, providing a unique advantage in human resources for sports broadcasting. Through the Sports Administration’s support, they offer diverse and professional workshops related to broadcasting within this program. This year’s broadcasting team will undergo 35 hours of core training courses before broadcasting the competitions, inviting industry professionals to teach concepts related to broadcasting, camera work, and event commentary. Anchors will also visit the university to share their experiences, creating more learning opportunities for students interested in sports broadcasting. The DAS of CCU noted that the two departments had already collaborated on this program in 2022, with last year’s broadcast of the Southern Sunshine Girls Volleyball League attracting as many as 40,000 viewers, indicating high public engagement. Associate Professor Tsai of the Department of Communication, the co-project leader, expressed optimism about communication students interested in sports broadcasting. He encouraged students to collaborate across disciplines to develop communication and teamwork skills, enhancing their integration abilities and professional competence. Liao stated that the CCU sports broadcasting team aims not only for the mid-April broadcasting task but also plans to lead the team in filming the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games in May. Through future interviews, filming, and broadcasting experiences, they hope to continuously improve and pass on CCU’s sports broadcasting skills, enabling more students to participate, creating more service possibilities, and gradually cultivating students’ competitiveness to align with industry standards, using innovative projects to create limitless opportunities for students.
