National Chung Cheng University Obtains International Industrial Control Cybersecurity Certification, Assisting Enterprises in Meeting Supply Chain Cybersecurity Requirements

In response to the growing demand for enhanced smart manufacturing security, the
Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-Tech Innovations (AIM-HI) at
National Chung Cheng University (CCU) has been steadfast in advancing industrial
cybersecurity. Successfully attaining the IEC 62443-2-4 international industrial
control system cybersecurity certification on July 19, 2023, marked a pivotal moment.
To commemorate this significant milestone, CCU hosted a momentous certification
ceremony on September 18, 2023. AIM-HI at CCU is not only celebrating this critical
achievement but also leveraging it to spearhead innovation in the realm of smart
manufacturing. With a dedicated focus, AIM-HI aims to amplify contributions to the
upgrade and transformation of Taiwan's industries.
AIM-HI at CCU highlights that the university is among the few domestically to
secure the IEC 62443-2-4 international certification. This achievement aims to bolster
the university's standing in the industrial sector, fostering confident collaborations
with businesses and partners to advance smart manufacturing technologies.
Professor Her-Terng Yau, the Director of AIM-HI at CCU, expresses that in the field
of industrial control cybersecurity, the IEC 62443-2-4 certification brings a more
rigorous system assurance. By addressing issues at the systemic level, it standardizes
various industrial control cybersecurity concerns. He states that this aspect undeniably
stands out as a major highlight of the certification, contributing to the establishment of
a more robust and secure safety protection system in the industrial sector, particularly
in the realm of smart manufacturing. The team, consisting of 15 members, has
undergone three years of dedicated efforts, including planning, proposal, differential
analysis, system establishment, procurement of relevant equipment, repeated review
and revision of certification documents, and ultimately conducting on-site audits.
Professor Yau emphasizes that this certification marks just the beginning of National
Chung Cheng University's efforts in the field of industrial cybersecurity. In the future,
there are plans to expand the research scope of the Forward-looking Smart
Manufacturing Center, covering areas such as smart manufacturing systems, machine
tools, artificial intelligence, industrial control cybersecurity, and the industrial Internet
of Things (IoT). This expansion aims to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration both
within and outside the university, fostering the development of more professionals in
the field of smart manufacturing. The goal is to apply smart manufacturing
technologies across various industries, contributing to the flourishing growth of smart
manufacturing in Taiwan.
Additionally, co-hosted by the College of Engineering at CCU, AIM-HI at CCU, and
the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at National Chin-Yi
University of Technology, with guidance from the Ministry of Education and the
National Science Council, a forum on smart mechanical and industrial control
information security is scheduled for October 13 at Howard Prince Hotel in Taichung.
This forum, featuring themes such as "Physical Intrusion Detection," has been
specially designed to explore various cybersecurity issues, inviting participation from
all stakeholders.
