CCU Brings International Scholars Together to Explore Tirosen’s History Two Academicians Lead Discussions on Documents, Archaeology, and East Asian Maritime Cultures
National Chung Cheng University (CCU) hosted the international conference “Documents and Archaeology: Tirosen and the Maritime Cultures of East Asia” on October 2–3, 2026. Scholars and collectors from Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia gathered to explore Tirosen’s past and Taiwan’s historical connections with East and Southeast Asia.
The conference was jointly organized by the College of Humanities, the Graduate Institute of Taiwanese Literature and Creative Application, the Department of History, and the Center for Cultural Heritage Preservation and Local Practice. CCU’s vice president presided over the opening ceremony and delivered welcoming remarks.
Featuring two academicians, the program included four keynote lectures and five thematic sessions. Topics ranged from early Austronesian migration and Siraya kinship to maritime exchanges between Tang China and the Strait of Malacca. Other discussions examined local settlements, women’s history, theatrical manuscripts, printing culture, and historical collections across Asia.
By bringing archaeological evidence and historical documents into dialogue, the conference connected local research with broader regional histories. Building on CCU’s strengths in the humanities—including its ranking of 31st worldwide in the 2025 QS Classics and Ancient History subject rankings—the organizers aimed to advance collaborative research, academic exchange, and cultural heritage preservation.
