To welcome new students for the 2026 academic year, the National Chung Cheng University (CCU) Library launched a series of creative orientation activities under the theme “Library Bloom! Let’s BOOK a Walk Together!” Inspired by the exploration and walking mechanics of the popular mobile game Pikmin Bloom, the Library transformed itself into an on-campus adventure hub where reading, learning, and daily life intersected in creative ways.

From guided tours and puzzle-solving challenges to a limited-time newspaper photo booth, time-capsule postcards, and an outdoor stargazing movie night, the event series invited new students to explore the Library and campus from fresh perspectives. The program kicked off on September 2 and drew over 4,000 faculty members and students. Throughout the campaign, the Library leveraged short social media videos and engaging posts to interact with students, driving strong overall participation.

The opening event, “Freshmen Adventure Team, Assemble!”, welcomed approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students on September 2 and September 8. Through interactive tours, participants explored the Library’s physical spaces, digital resources, and services, getting acquainted with this central hub of academic life.

Diverging from traditional orientations, the tours incorporated a LINE-based online puzzle game custom-designed by the Library. The facility was reimagined as an adventure grounds where participants deciphered clues throughout the building to complete missions. Through gamified exploration, students became familiar with library services in an engaging manner. The LINE game attracted over 1,000 players and remained active through September 20.

Simultaneously, the Library featured interactive memory-making initiatives. “Photo BOOK, No Need to Ask!” set up a limited-time photo booth in the main lobby, offering customized newspaper-themed frames. The booth quickly emerged as a popular campus spot, producing over 1,100 newspaper-style prints that served as unique keepsakes for incoming freshmen.

The “Time Post Office” initiative connected students’ present thoughts with future aspirations. Freshmen wrote postcards reflecting on their entry to CCU, depositing them into a custom mailbox in the lobby. The Library will mail these letters back to the students four years later upon graduation. Over 500 postcards were collected. Demonstrating environmental commitment, the mailbox was upcycled from decommissioned library furniture. The activity ran through September 20.

On September 9, the “Adventure Supply Station” presented the Library’s digital collections through a lively market-style event. Digital resources were presented through interactive game booths, enabling students to explore academic tools in a relaxed environment.

The following evening, the “Enjoy Tonight: Outdoor Stargazing Movie Party!” converted the library plaza into an open-air cinema under the night sky. The lounge seating area filled rapidly, complemented by a bustling night-market food area. Students enjoyed films and refreshments, experiencing a vibrant side of campus life.

From September 15 to 17, the “My Favorite Books: Readers’ Choice Book Exhibition” invited faculty and students to recommend books for future library acquisitions. Their selections directly informed the Library’s ongoing collection development.

On September 17, the “Meet a More Comfortable You” workshop hosted a licensed counseling psychologist to lead discussions on interpersonal relationships and emotional adaptation during the college transition.

Concurrently, the “Chiayi Themed Book Fair” highlighted local history and regional literature, introducing incoming students to the cultural background of Chiayi.

Library officials noted that this year’s orientation successfully integrated reading into everyday student life through creative formats. By transforming its physical and digital spaces, the Library served not only as an academic resource center but also as a vibrant campus venue for community connection and student engagement.
