To deepen the practice of transitional justice education across higher education, K–12 education, and local communities, National Chung Cheng University (CCU) convened the “Yunlin–Chiayi Consensus Meeting on Transitional Justice Education” on September 2. The meeting brought together CCU faculty members from the humanities, law, social sciences, communications, and other disciplines, student representatives, and members of the Taipei National University of the Arts project office responsible for promoting diverse approaches to transitional justice education. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, participants exchanged views on educator needs, curriculum and teaching material development, educational outreach, and connections with local resources in Yunlin and Chiayi, gradually identifying key directions for future collaboration.

National Chung Cheng University’s Office of University Social Responsibility implemented the Ministry of Education’s Transitional Justice Education Implementation Program in accordance with the Ministry’s designated schedule. Under the initiative “Building Shared Memory, Learning through Culture: A CCU-Based Collaborative Action Network for Transitional Justice Education in Yunlin and Chiayi,” CCU served as a regional hub connecting educational institutions at various levels with local partners. Through these efforts, transitional justice education extended beyond campus boundaries into communities across Yunlin and Chiayi, forming a sustainable regional network for collaboration.

CCU Vice President Shin-Yuan Hung stated that the University was committed to fulfilling its roles in research, teaching, talent development, and community engagement. He added that the Office of University Social Responsibility would continue integrating internal and external resources, enabling CCU to serve as a regional hub for advancing a collaborative network for transitional justice education in Yunlin and Chiayi.

The Taipei National University of the Arts project office responsible for promoting diverse approaches to transitional justice education shared its experience in policy implementation and introduced relevant educational resources. Participants explored how transitional justice education could be incorporated into curricula and outreach activities across different disciplines. Their discussions focused on integrating human rights, law, communications, culture, local history, and community engagement to transform historical memory, democratic values, and civic participation into accessible, understandable, and engaging learning content for students.

The Office of University Social Responsibility at National Chung Cheng University stated that transitional justice education could not be undertaken by a single university or a small group of educators alone. Its advancement depended on the collective participation of professionals across fields, educators at various levels, and local community partners. Building on the consensus reached at the meeting, the Office planned to establish a training program for secondary school teachers serving as seed educators in transitional justice, promote the development of teaching materials and lesson plans, and create a collaborative curriculum development and mentoring mechanism. It also aimed to continue connecting teachers, local historians, cultural venues, community organizations, and civil society groups throughout Yunlin and Chiayi, bringing transitional justice education into classrooms while strengthening ties with local communities.

CCU aimed to transform transitional justice from an abstract concept into concrete educational practice. Through sustained collaboration, the University sought to cultivate historical awareness, cultural understanding, democratic literacy, and civic engagement among younger generations while establishing a long-term and resilient network for transitional justice education across Yunlin and Chiayi.
