CCU Startup Team "Zuose Ren" Secured NT$1.3 Million Subsidy from Ministry of Environment to Establish "Lucao Wood Light" Circular Base

publish date : 2026-03-27

Zuose Ren," a team incubated by the National Chung Cheng University (CCU) Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has long been dedicated to regional revitalization in Lucao Township, Chiayi County. Recently, their project "Lucao Wood Light: Learning Circularity with Hands, Creating Locality with Creativity" passed the review of the Ministry of Environment's Resource Circulation Office, securing a NT$1.3 million subsidy for the 2026 fiscal year. This selection was not only a recognition of the project but also symbolized the gradual formation of a model combining regional revitalization with the circular economy.

This project aligned with the National Development Council's "Sustainable and Mutual Good Regional Revitalization Plan (2025-2028)" policy. It emphasized utilizing local resources to develop circular industries and innovative business models with local characteristics, aiming to drive youth participation and population return through job creation and industrial chain integration. With comprehensive medium-to-long-term planning and local implementation experience, "Zuose Ren" successfully passed the rigorous review process, demonstrating its maturity and proactiveness in promoting regional revitalization.

"Lucao Wood Light" was not just a simple woodworking project; it was a revitalization action starting from the reuse of local resources. Yi-Hao Wu, an alumnus of CCU and the founder and CEO of "Zuose Ren," pointed out that Lucao Township had long had many old building materials and idle wood, which were mostly treated as waste in the past. Through design translation and field investigations of local stories, the team transformed these materials into circular products that carry local memories and cultural significance, allowing discarded resources to become important carriers of local value.

Yi-Hao Wu further shared that the space where "Lucao Wood Light" was located was the Lucao Holy Family Park, formerly a hospital. During the renovation process, the team preserved and reused some old building materials. For example, the wooden coasters in the studio were made from the hospital's original window frames. Through redesign and production, they not only extended the life of the materials but also allowed users to feel the historical traces and temporal warmth of the site in their daily lives.

Yi-Hao Wu stated that the greatest feature of this project was the proposal of a replicable and self-sustaining sustainable development mechanism. The team transformed the Lucao Holy Family Park into a permanent "Woodwork Circular Action Site," introducing material bank construction, carpentry classes, and co-learning workshops, becoming a base for youth returning home to practice and accumulate skills.

"Regional revitalization is not a one-time event, but a long-term project to cultivate talent, build industrial chains, and form an economic micro-cycle," Yi-Hao Wu explained. This project organized a youth action team to cultivate local circular design and operational capabilities, creating green business opportunities with market potential for Lucao Township.

Hsin-Yuan Hung, Director of the CCU Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, noted that Yi-Hao Wu had demonstrated entrepreneurial potential since his student days, growing from a campus startup team to a company operating on the ground. Successfully securing resources from central ministries was a concrete result of combining university entrepreneurship cultivation with regional revitalization. Through long-term guidance and resource matching from the center, youth teams could transform creativity into executable local solutions and connect with central policies. Finally, Yi-Hao Wu emphasized that receiving the subsidy was not only an honor but also a responsibility. In the future, they will continue to deepen the integration of resource circulation and regional revitalization, allowing Lucao Township to find its own path of revitalization amidst the tide of sustainable development.
