Cross-Domain Collaboration to Deepen Local Roots: National Chung Cheng University and Chiayi City Government Joined Hands to Promote the Elderly Health Promotion Project

publish date : 2026-02-26

To address the challenges of an aging society and reduce the health gap between urban and rural areas, the Chiayi City Clinical Psychologists Association actively responded to the "Healthy Taiwan Deep Cultivation Plan" by collaborating with National Chung Cheng University (CCU). Under the leadership of President Shaw-Jenq Tsai, the university developed a "Multi-Module Training and Promotion System" dedicated to enhancing the psychological resilience and physical functions of the elderly, realizing the vision of holistic care through physical and mental integration.

The inauguration ceremony was held on February 26. The fitness studio that opened that day served primarily as a training ground for medical professionals, providing practical exercises and professional guidance. In the future, the project will also collaborate with "Evergreen Garden," where the facility will provide space to train seniors, transforming professional knowledge into health actions that meet community needs, gradually expanding service capacity, and deepening the local health support network.

In the initial stage, the project prioritized training clinical psychologists and non-psychology medical professionals through systematic courses and practical operations to strengthen their professional capabilities in elderly physical and mental health promotion. After completing the training, trainees went deep into the community to promote positive health concepts among residents.

Led by the Chiayi City Clinical Psychologists Association, this project integrated CCU’s Department of Psychology, Department of Athletic Performance, Ching-Jiang Center for Adult and Continuing Education, and the Center for Research on Labor and Welfare in Aging Society. The team developed four core course modules: "Stress Management," "Behavioral Activation," "Exercise Guidance," and "Cognitive Promotion." The courses were designed for both clinical psychologists and non-psychology professionals, using a dual-track approach of in-person and online sessions to establish a sustainable mechanism of "training-internship-supervision-practice."

National Chung Cheng University played a crucial role in this project, not only providing faculty and research support but also serving as the central platform for the overall system design and knowledge translation. Faculty from the Department of Psychology and the Graduate Institute of Clinical Psychology, the Department of Athletic Performance, and the Center for Research on Labor and Welfare in Aging Society respectively designed courses and assessed effects on stress adjustment, behavioral activation, cognitive promotion, and exercise intervention. Meanwhile, the Ching-Jiang Center for Adult and Continuing Education was responsible for establishing the online teaching platform and digital course development, ensuring learning efficiency and promotion breadth.

On the implementation level, the project received strong support from the Social Affairs Department of the Chiayi City Government. The initiative aimed to introduce course modules to various community centers in Chiayi City and expand to primary medical sites such as Nanchang Clinic in Yunlin County, so that elderly people in remote areas could also benefit from high-quality health promotion resources.

National Chung Cheng University and the Chiayi City Clinical Psychologists Association worked together to demonstrate the key driving force of academic institutions in elderly health promotion. The project received strong support from the Social Affairs Department of the Chiayi City Government, the Ching-Jiang Center for Adult and Continuing Education, and Nanchang Clinic, constructing a promotion network that combined cross-domain integration and local practice. CCU deeply rooted itself in the local area, actively promoting national physical and mental health and resilience, showing the implementation and leadership of university social responsibility, setting an important example for the "Healthy Taiwan" policy goals, and creating an active and energetic healthy life for the elderly in Taiwan.
