CCU Halal Industry Promotion Alliance Empowers Enterprises to Seize Global Muslim Market Opportunities
As the global Muslim population surpassed 2 billion, the halal industry became one of the most high-growth markets in the world. Professor Chin-Chin Cheng, Director of the Center for ASEAN and South Asia Studies at National Chung Cheng University (CCU), launched the "Halal Industry Promotion Alliance" on February 1, 2022. Supported by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) industry-academic small alliance project, the Alliance became the first and only university research unit in Taiwan dedicated to expanding halal business opportunities through a specialized industry-academic mechanism.
The Alliance adopted "Law-led Business" as its core strategy, combining legal expertise with industrial guidance to help companies establish robust contract frameworks and mitigate cross-border legal risks. While the Alliance did not issue certifications directly, it collaborated with specific certification bodies to help enterprises identify the best certification pathways and apply for relevant subsidies. A notable success story was "Come True Coffee," which successfully obtained halal certification for 96 products and achieved significant revenue growth in Malaysia. In January 2026, the Alliance led a delegation to Brunei for a two-day intensive business exchange, resulting in four cooperation projects across smart agriculture, language education, environmental protection, and healthcare.
Looking ahead, the Alliance planned to elevate its service levels by strategically partnering with the international business organization Corporate Connections (CC) to connect Taiwanese firms with major Muslim corporations abroad. Under the leadership of CCU President Shaw-Jenq Tsai, the university continued to support such initiatives. Professor Chin-Chin Cheng stated that the Alliance entered its fifth year with over 110 member companies. The goal was to transform international development from general exchanges into precise matchmaking and localized cooperation, providing comprehensive services including halal legal and tax consulting, personnel training, and cross-domain integration.
