A Model of Industry–Academia Collaboration in Talent Development: Xing-da Construction’s Chen Chin-Shu Gave Back to His Alma Mater
Amid the growing momentum in higher education to cultivate cross-disciplinary talent, the transfer of resources and experience from the business sector became a vital force. Chen Chin-Shu, a distinguished alumnus of National Chung Cheng University (CCU), current Chairman of the CCU Academic Foundation, and Chairman of Xing-da Development & Construction, not only actively gave back to his alma mater but also personally taught in the classroom to share his management philosophy.
To further encourage students to pursue their dreams, Chairman Chen established the “Xing-da Dream Fulfillment Scholarship” in collaboration with the Bauhinia Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Program, jointly nurturing cross-disciplinary talent with a strong sense of social responsibility.
Chairman Teaching in Person: Passing On Management Wisdom Through Six Core Modules
Deeply rooted in local development, Chairman Chen partnered this semester with Professor Chen Chun-Yi, Director of the Bauhinia Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Program at CCU, to co-teach the course "Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance." Departing from traditional theory-based instruction, Chairman Chen drew upon his extensive real-world experience, generously sharing his entrepreneurial journey and life wisdom with younger generations.
The course featured six core modules. Chen reflected on his early life journey in “Self-Introduction” and discussed decision-making in “Entrepreneurship.” Other modules included “Choosing the Right Team” and “Leadership,” which emphasized strategic vision. Chairman Chen also highlighted the value of “Learning,” sharing his educational journey from CCU to Cambridge, and concluded with the module “If You Want to Change the World, First Change Yourself,” a deep exploration of corporate social responsibility and core values.
Discovering Student Dreams in the Classroom: Establishing the “Dream Fulfillment Scholarship”
Through close interaction with students in the course, Chairman Chen observed that many CCU students possessed innovative ideas yet were often constrained by limited financial resources. Firmly believing that education should transform knowledge into a force for changing the world, he decided to take action.
To serve as a strong pillar of support, he established the “Xing-da Dream Fulfillment Scholarship” to encourage students to break free from traditional disciplinary boundaries and translate their ideals into concrete action plans. This endeavor embodied Xing-da Construction’s core corporate value of giving back to society.
Outstanding First Cohort of Awardees Demonstrates Strong Cross-Disciplinary Impact
In its inaugural year, the Xing-da Dream Fulfillment Scholarship selected three outstanding student teams whose projects spanned innovative research and development, social engagement, and international exchange.
Among them, Wu Kuan-Ying from the Bauhinia Interdisciplinary Program proposed the “SeismiFit Anti-Tipping Module,” a reusable seismic protection device. Another team—Li Chien-Yun, Lin En, and Lin Yen-Ting—produced a documentary examining the social safety net. Meanwhile, Lin Hao-Chen from the Department of History launched an international intercollegiate English workshop to create an exchange platform between students in Taiwan and Denmark.
Xing-da Construction’s philanthropic initiative strongly supported the Bauhinia Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Program in its mission to cultivate future leaders. Director Chen Chun-Yi noted that the program would continue to utilize every contribution from industry partners to nurture leaders capable of making a positive difference in society.
