Organized by National Chung Cheng University (CCU) under the supervision of the Ministry of Education (MOE), the "7th Active Aging Education Contribution Awards Ceremony and Active Aging Learning Forum" took place on December 12 at the NTUH International Convention Center. Themed "United for Active Aging, Sustaining Values," the event gathered promoters of active aging education and academic representatives from across the nation to showcase the fruitful results and energy accumulated over 17 years of deep cultivation in active aging education in Taiwan.
Since launching the "Active Aging Learning Program" in 2008, the MOE has held the "Active Aging Education Contribution Awards" biennially since 2012 to express gratitude to frontline teams, honoring lecturers, volunteers, and administrative teams who had long dedicated themselves to the field. This year’s event continued to be organized by National Chung Cheng University. The university’s Aging & Education Research Center and the Department of Adult and Continuing Education long participated in policy promotion, curriculum development, and talent cultivation, laying a solid foundation for active aging education in Taiwan.
The ceremony opened with a vibrant "Drumming for the Future" performance by the Taoyuan Longtan Active Aging Learning Center, followed by a "Passion Awakening" jazz dance by the Kaohsiung Model Active Aging Learning Center. These energetic performances symbolized the vitality of continuous learning among seniors. A total of 10 group awards and 38 individual awards were presented, covering categories such as Teaching Excellence, Volunteer Service, the promotion of Older Adult Self-directed Learning Groups, and Distinguished Leadership. These awards highlighted the achievements of implementing "localized, diverse, and sustainable" active aging education across Taiwan. CCU Vice President Shin-Yuan Hong attended to congratulate the winners, expressing hope that through systematic research energy and the joint efforts of active aging partners, the quality of life for senior citizens would be substantially improved.
The forum agenda was designed to be both profound and forward-looking. In the morning session, CCU Professor Hui-Chuan Wei hosted a keynote speech by Dr. Meng-Hsiung Hsieh, Chairman of Shih Chien University, on the topic "Life Should Be Splendid," sharing wisdom on active aging and lifelong learning. The afternoon session featured Professor Li-Hui Lin hosting a discussion on "Talent Sustainability in Active Aging Education" with Professor Ting-Yang Liu from National Kaohsiung Normal University. Subsequently, Professor Ai-Tzu Li hosted a session where Professor Chin-Shan Huang spoke on "Active Aging 2.0: Imagining the Future of Active Aging Learning from Global Trends," analyzing trends from an international perspective to help attendees envision future development directions for active aging models.
In addition to the keynote speeches, this year’s event featured two innovative "Live Podcast" sessions. These dialogue-based sessions focused on "The Value of Active Aging" and "Management of Active Aging," transforming the event from a mere awards ceremony into a platform for practical experience exchange and consensus-building. National Chung Cheng University stated that active aging education played a critical role in promoting health and strengthening social participation. Moving forward, the university intended to continue using research as its core to deepen the theoretical foundations of active aging education, establish replicable promotion models, and integrate cross-disciplinary and local cooperative energies. Together with the MOE and all active aging partners, CCU aimed to build a sustainable lifelong learning society for Taiwan's aging population.
