National Chung Cheng University Announces The Excellent Teaching Performance Awards of 2025, Honoring Five Faculty Members

National Chung Cheng University recently unveiled the recipients of its Excellent Teaching Performance Awards of 2025, recognizing five outstanding educators for their exceptional performance in the classroom and profound impact on students. These distinguished faculty members are Der-Hwa Victoria Rau, Professor in the Department of Institute of Linguistics; Pi-Hui Tuan, Associate Professor in the Department of Physics; Ming-Hung Wang, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering; Chih-Ying Yang, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Hsien-Lian Chiu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Technology. They exemplify innovative teaching and dedication, seamlessly blending professional expertise with social engagement, setting a benchmark for teaching excellence at Chung Cheng University.

Professor Der-Hwa Victoria Rau has dedicated herself to teaching Austronesian languages and cultures, Indonesian, Filipino, Mandarin, and English. She integrates her research expertise to develop digital teaching materials and online courses, actively participating in initiatives such as the Higher Education SPROUT Project, emerging technology education, and employability enhancement programs. Notably, she utilizes generative AI and digital humanities to preserve endangered languages and leads graduate students in assisting with Indigenous language transmission, embodying the university's social responsibility. Furthermore, she is deeply involved in EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) courses, guiding students in international competitions, and providing student counseling, demonstrating her cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural teaching prowess.

Associate Professor Pi-Hui Tuan adheres to the teaching philosophy of "the faster the world, the slower the heart," encouraging students to take their time, cultivate inner strength, and face the unknown bravely. He has transformed traditional laboratory courses by adopting project-based learning, combining theory with practice to enhance students' self-directed learning, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities. He actively participates in dual-track experimental courses and promotes EMI teaching, with significant success in guiding students through various on and off-campus competitions.

Associate Professor Ming-Hung Wang adopts a student-centered approach, leveraging diverse teaching strategies and technological tools to foster positive interactions among faculty, teaching assistants, and students, thereby creating a supportive co-learning environment. He offers interdisciplinary courses such as Computational Social Science and Social Media Mining, promoting the integration of information education and social concerns. He encourages students to think actively and engage in hands-on practice, emphasizing the cultivation of teamwork and critical thinking, and has consistently received recognition for his excellent courses.

Associate Professor Chih-Ying Yang prioritizes foundational knowledge and skill development in engineering education. Centering on student learning, she provides comprehensive teaching videos, allowing students the flexibility to manage their study time and progress in self-directed learning. She is adept at listening to student feedback and responding to their needs, continually optimizing her teaching content. She also dedicates considerable effort to teaching the Mechanical Engineering Capstone course, integrating fundamental knowledge with practical applications to guide students in developing project thinking and practical abilities, which earns high regard and trust from her students.

Assistant Professor Hsien-Lian Chiu believes that understanding and care are core teaching values, emphasizing the individual needs and learning journeys of students. He designs practical, industry-relevant teaching materials from a student's perspective, guiding them to grasp core issues in accounting, information, and ESG, while also stressing the values of integrity and responsibility. He is committed to digital courses and case-based teaching, striving to deepen student learning and attitudes. His exceptional achievements in thesis supervision demonstrate his profound teaching energy and professional dedication.
