A Journey of Self-Exploration Through Art: "A New World Named by Me - The Process of Self-awareness " Yin Hsin-Fang Solo Exhibition at the CCU Library

publish date : 2024-02-24

National Chung Cheng University is committed to promoting art culture and mental health education. The library specially planned its first exhibition for the Spring 2025 season by inviting local Chiayi artist Yin Hsin-Fang to hold a solo exhibition titled "A New World Named by Me - The Process of Self-awareness" with an artist talk on March 20. This exhibition and talk not only demonstrated the profound power of artistic creation but also resonated with the Ministry of Education's "Campus Mental Health Promotion Program," aiming to enhance faculty and students' attention to self-exploration and mental health through immersion in and communication via art.

Finding the Self, Reshaping Life Through Art
As Renaissance thinker Erasmus once said, "The primary path to happiness lies in a person's willingness to be himself." Yin Hsin-Fang's artistic practice is the best interpretation of this statement. Her work is not just a visual presentation but a journey of self-exploration and psychological healing.

The exhibition, themed "A New World Named by Me - The Process of Self-awareness" explores how Yin Hsin-Fang retrieves her sense of self through artistic creation, from finding personal meaning to creating significance, using art to gain self-awareness and engage in deep dialogue with her inner self, ultimately forging a unique personal artistic language. The term "A New World Named by Me" in the exhibition title stems from the artist's re-recognition of her own identity. She deeply reflects on the unique geometric significance of her name "Yin Hsin-Fang" during her creative process, transforming it into visual vocabulary and shaping a distinctive artistic style.

Dialogue Between Mental Health and Art
This exhibition aligns with the objectives of the Ministry of Education's "Campus Mental Health Promotion Program," which aims to assist college faculty and students in enhancing their awareness of their psychological states through participation in activities, as well as learning how to cope with daily pressures and challenges. Yin Hsin-Fang's works and artistic practice provide a visual and emotional extension and supplement to this program.

In a fast-paced and highly competitive academic environment, students and teachers often face stress and anxiety, and art serves as a powerful and gentle means of self-healing. Through this exhibition and the artist talk, participants could gain a deeper understanding of how to express inner emotions through art and find psychological support and inspiration from creation and appreciation.

Artist Talk: Exploring Inner Strength
To deepen the understanding of the exhibition, an artist talk was held on March 20, featuring Yin Hsin-Fang and curator Zhuang Zong-Hsun. The two artists discussed and shared their creative journeys and philosophies with faculty and students. They engaged in discussions about how Yin Hsin-Fang uses art to regain her sense of self, confront her inner vulnerabilities, and face life's challenges with courage and confidence. This talk was particularly suitable for faculty and students interested in art therapy, mental health, and personal growth.
