Encouraging Academic Research on Taiwan's Super-Aged Society: Professor James H-Y Tai Donates NT$10 Million to Establish Research Fund
National Chung Cheng University recently held the "2024 Key Industry Pre-employment Training Outsourcing Service Project" UAV Professional Flight Class, commissioned by the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor. The program attracted participants from diverse backgrounds and industries. Among them, retired Major General Wu Liwen made history by passing the drone operation certification exam, becoming the first major general to achieve this milestone. His accomplishment highlights the wide-ranging potential of UAV technology in various fields.
Retired Major General Wu Liwen has been actively pursuing lifelong learning and successfully obtained his drone operation certification. He envisions UAV technology playing a pivotal role in enhancing flexibility and efficiency in military operations. Another participant, Liu Dengfu, who comes from an agricultural family, is applying UAV technology to automate and optimize agricultural production. With his background in electrical engineering, Liu plans to use the flight and mission planning skills acquired during the course to drive innovation and modernization in the agricultural sector.
Chen Boqiao, from the "Ah Hong Banana Distribution Center," also participated in the program. Coming from a family with extensive banana plantations and a background in communication and electronics from the Air Force Institute of Communication and Electronics, Chen aims to integrate UAV technology into agricultural logistics. His goal is to improve transportation efficiency, reduce labor costs, and enhance the competitiveness of agricultural technology.
Tsui Hsiao-Chien, Director of the Ching-Jiang Extension Education & e-Learning Center at National Chung Cheng University, expressed her gratitude to the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Branch for supporting the pre-employment training program. She emphasized the program’s success in equipping unemployed individuals with professional skills, enabling them to re-enter the job market with confidence. Tsui highlighted the importance of quality faculty in vocational training and thanked Chung Cheng University and its industry partners for providing participants with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in UAV technology. Looking ahead, the university plans to continue offering similar interdisciplinary courses to cultivate skilled professionals and strengthen workplace competitiveness.
The program’s achievement presentation was successfully held on February 26, 2025, showcasing participants' accomplishments in UAV technology. The event underscored the program's contribution to advancing the drone industry and fostering innovation across multiple sectors.
