National Chung Cheng University Earns Recognition for Two USR Projects
Since the Ministry of Education launched the University Social Responsibility (USR) Program, National Chung Cheng University (CCU) has actively encouraged faculty and students to engage in social responsibility initiatives, with strong support by President Dr. Shaw-Jenq Tsai. Led by Vice President Dr. Shin-Yuan Hung, who also serves as Director of the Social Responsibility Office, along with Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Long-Chuan Lu, the office’s Executive Director, CCU has been dedicated to integrating academic research with local needs to promote sustainable development and social innovation. In the Ministry of Education’s recently announced fourth-phase USR Program results (2025-2027), CCU secured approval for two projects, showcasing its long-standing commitment and earning high praise.
The approved projects include “Co-Creating a Fulfilling Life for the Elderly: A Multidisciplinary Human Rights Practice Program” and “Sustainable Talent Development for Alishan Tsou Tribe Culture and Community Industries,” both categorized under the “University Distinctive Features - Budding Type” category. The first project, led by Professor Huey-Ling Shee, Department of Law, who also serves as Director of the Taiwan Law Information Center, focuses on enhancing the quality of life and human rights of the elderly. By integrating multiple disciplines and collaborating with communities, it aims to implement innovative measures that foster an inclusive and dignified aging society. The second project, led by Professor Bella Ya-Hui Lien, Dean of the College of Management, focuses on preserving and promoting the culture of the Alishan Tsou tribe. By combining education, culture, and industrial innovation, it seeks to cultivate sustainable industry talents within the community, fostering self-sufficient economic models and achieving a balance between cultural preservation and industrial growth.
The approval of these two projects marks a significant milestone in CCU’s ongoing efforts to advance the USR Program. By consistently merging academic expertise with local engagement, CCU has demonstrated a profound commitment to social responsibility while addressing national expectations for higher education institutions.
Over the next three years, CCU plans to dedicate substantial resources and efforts to deepen the implementation of these two USR projects. CCU aims to inspire more faculty and students to participate in social innovation initiatives, further extending its influence locally and globally. With continued support from the USR Program, CCU strives to create greater value for local communities and indigenous cultures while contributing to global sustainable development.
