The "Future Leaders Showcase Competition " not only tests students' career planning and self-marketing skills. Participants are encouraged to explore their career advantages through the competition process and use presentation and speech skills to market themselves. Contestants must submit a pre-recorded 5-minute speech based on the topic of "Exploring Career Strengths and Successfully Marketing Oneself." The finalists were asked to deliver a 10-minute presentation on site. After that, the winner will be elected then.
From the experience of coaching her, Dr. Wen-chun Chen, Director of the Center for Language Studies (CLS), explained that while the competition emphasizes public presentation skills, more importantly, it focused on how participants could market themselves. Yu-tzen not only received comprehensive and solid training in her major from the department, but also exploited resources including taking Japanese language courses at the Center. Fellow EMI tutors also joined the training process to boost her performance and confidence. All of above strengthened her with a unique superiority in future workplace.
Nowadays, youngsters aspire not only to break through the narrow door of employment after graduation but also to build a personal brand in the workplace. Based on this needs, universities are increasingly emphasizing problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and literacy education. Despite being located in a suburban area, which is often seen as a challenge for career opportunities for CCU and the students, Yu-tzen's outstanding performance represents the best proof of the competitiveness and workplace advantages of our students.
