National Chung Cheng University Partners with Chiayi County Government to Explore Local Revitalization and Social Responsibility Practices

On October 8, 2024, National Chung Cheng University (CCU) and the Chiayi County Government held a significant meeting aimed at exploring how the university's academic resources could help address local development challenges in Chiayi County. The meeting was chaired by Chiayi County Deputy Magistrate Liu Pei-Tung, with the participation of CCU Vice President Hung Hsin-Yuan, Dean of Student Affairs Lu Lung-Chuan, and members of the USR (University Social Responsibility) project team.

Deputy Magistrate Liu expressed his gratitude to CCU for its active involvement in local development and social responsibility. He highlighted the challenges faced by Chiayi County, including population decline, industrial restructuring, and ecological protection. Liu emphasized the need for an effective partnership to integrate academic research with local needs.

Vice President Hung reiterated CCU's commitment to advancing USR initiatives and underscored the university’s intention to offer practical solutions to support Chiayi County. He noted that the university plans to contribute through joint research, student internships, and community engagement to promote local revitalization.

Dean Lu elaborated on the importance of student internships, stating that student involvement not only enhances practical skills but also contributes significantly to local communities, creating a win-win situation for both the university and the region. The USR project team also shared past success stories, showcasing the university's impact in various fields.

The meeting featured in-depth discussions on ecological conservation, cultural and creative industries, and the development of social enterprises. Both sides agreed that the university's expertise and technical support could provide innovative ideas for Chiayi County’s sustainable development. Deputy Magistrate Liu proposed the creation of concrete cooperation plans and the establishment of regular meetings to ensure the implementation to achieve the goals.

Both parties expressed optimism about future collaboration, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, to jointly advance local revitalization and the practice of social responsibility. Deputy Magistrate Liu emphasized that this meeting marked a strong starting point for cooperation between CCU and the Chiayi County Government, and both parties would work together to achieve greater outcomes.

The meeting not only deepened the understanding between academia and the government but also laid a solid foundation for Chiayi County's future development, highlighting the essential role of the university in regional progress.
