Global Views Magazine recently released the 2024 Best University
Rankings in Taiwan, recognizing 20 outstanding universities. National
Chung Cheng University (CCU), located in Chiayi, has diligently
cultivated a balanced development in social sciences and technology over
the past 35 years. This effort has positioned CCU as a research-oriented
comprehensive university with international competitiveness, excelling in
both cutting-edge technology and humanities-social sciences
collaboration. CCU ranked third in the "Humanities and Social Sciences"
category and was recognized for the most significant improvement in
"Overall Competitiveness" among national universities.
Vice President of CCU, Shin-Yuan Hung, stated that in response to the
challenges of the globalized and intelligent era, CCU has long been
dedicated to local practical work and closely integrated with the industrial
ecosystem and cultural expressions of central and southern Taiwan,
fostering steady growth in various professional fields. In line with trends
in higher education development, the university continues to promote
"University Social Responsibility" (USR). USR focuses on key research
areas such as "Intelligence, Action, and Sustainability," and addresses
interdisciplinary topics like Cultural Sustainability, Health Promotion for
the Elderly, Community Prosperity, and Local Revitalization. For
instance, at CCU, the College of Humanities promotes the diverse
development of creativity and linguistics, the College of Management
emphasizes green finance and sustainable investment, and the College of
Law is deeply involved in research on "Interdisciplinary Human Rights
Practice Programs" and "External Inspection Issues for Correctional
Institutions and Prisons."
To enhance differentiation and highlight diverse values and comparative
fairness, Global Views Magazine expanded the evaluation indicators of
this year from 22 to 45 items. The universities were grouped by their
attributes and ranked based on their performance. In addition to the seven
major categories—Comprehensive, Humanities and Social Sciences,
Medical, Public, Private, General, and Technical-vocational—the ranking
of this year also included 20 groups categorized by region (Northern,
Central, Southern, and Eastern and Offshore Islands), 4 different scales of
student population and overall funding of the school. Rankings were
based on six dimensions: "Social Reputation," "Academic Achievement,"
"Teaching Performance," "Degree of Internationalization," "IndustryAcademia Performance," and "Financial Health."
Global Views Magazine also invited university presidents and vice
presidents who were knowledgeable about higher education development
trends to evaluate schools based on 10 categories "Overall
Competitiveness," "Education," "Arts and Humanities," "Social Sciences,
Journalism, and Library Information," "Business and Law," "Natural
Sciences, Mathematics, and Statistics," "Information and Communication
Technology," "Engineering, Manufacturing, and Constructing,"
"Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, and Animals," "Medicine, Health, and
Social Welfare," and "Service" across ten academic fields. This year, the
top three universities in "Humanities and Social Sciences" were National
Taiwan Normal University, National Chengchi University, and CCU.
Among these, CCU was jointly selected by the presidents as the national
university with the most significant improvement in "Overall
Competitiveness."
CCU stated that moving forward, it will emphasize "Foresight, Balance,
and Sharing" as core concepts, highlighting regional innovation and
industry-academia-research collaboration. The university aims to make
good use of new technologies to address common global social issues,
thereby nurturing a new generation of talent that can adapt to and
contribute to the times. CCU will continue to play a positive and crucial
role through its unique advantages of local engagement, striving to build
an active and sustainable future in higher education.
