Moving Toward International Multiculturalism: National Chung Cheng University’s College of Management Inaugurated EMI Learning Center and Muslim Prayer Space

publish date : 2024-06-20

In light of the trend of internationalization and multiculturalism, National
Chung Cheng University's (CCU) College of Management unveiled the
EMI Learning Center and the Muslim Prayer Room on June 20th
. These
innovations not only enrich the multiculturalism of the campus, but also
provide students with a more international learning environment.
The Dean and the Professor of College of Management Lian Ya-Hui said
that the College will make good use of the EMI Learning Center. In
addition to being used by students for EMI courses, this center will also
be used for lectures and seminars in the future. The Center for Language
Studies presented that, in response to the trends of globalization and
internationalization, CCU established the EMI Learning Center to further
enhance students' English proficiency, increase their international
mobility, and improve their competitiveness.
Since 2023, the College of Management has undertaken “The Program on
Bilingual Education for Students in College” by the Ministry of
Education, becoming the third college at CCU, after the College of
Engineering and the College of Education, to receive the Ministry of
Education funding for promoting English-medium instruction (EMI). The
newly inaugurated EMI Learning Center will provide students with a
more comfortable and conducive learning environment. The space is
equipped with brand-new desks and chairs, serving as a study carrel for
students of the College of Management and a venue for local and
international students to discuss and exchange ideas. In addition to being
used as a study area, it will also host lectures, cultural events, teacher
seminar, and exchanges organized by the EMI Learning Center in the
future.
In addition to the bilingual program, to provide the increasing number of
Muslim students with a sense of "home," the College of Management has
collaborated with Muslim students to establish a Muslim Prayer Room
next to the B1 space in the College of Management. The College stated
that Islam is one of the three major world religions, with nearly 2 billion
adherents globally. CCU has always respected diverse ideas and
embraced different religious cultures, and therefore, it is committed to
providing a friendly learning environment for Muslim students.
The College of Management explained that the EMI Learning Center
offers English speaking courses every Tuesday and Wednesday during
the 112 academic year, allowing students to engage in English
conversations with foreign teachers. On Thursdays, writing courses are
provided, where EMI teachers review and correct students' essays to
improve their English writing skills. The EMI courses for the 113
academic year will be announced after students confirm their course
selections. A detailed course schedule can be found on the College of
Management's EMI website at https://comemi.ccu.edu.tw/.
