Precision Training, Bridging the Age Gap in Exercise! Collaboration between CCU and Chiayi County Government to Train Exercise Instructors for Elders
Precise training, bridging the age “gap” in exercise! The Chiayi County Government has
commissioned the Department of Athletic Sports of National Chung Cheng University (CCU) to
organize the third iteration "Precision Functional Training" On the 4th, a results presentation was
held at the Innovation Academy, 2nd floor auditorium of the Chiayi County Institute of Human
Resources Development. With the theme "Regaining the body's strength, living out the brightness of
life," the program is dedicated to rediscovering correct muscle, bone, and joint positioning,
implementing daily physical activities, optimizing the quality of life for the elderly, and enhancing
happiness, aiming for exceptional longevity.
Chiayi County is a major agricultural and industrial county, where the elderly have worked tirelessly
over the years. Many seniors endure chronic pain and swelling throughout their bodies, often relying
solely on medication to alleviate symptoms. In order to demonstrate the county government's
commitment to enhancing the well-being of the elderly, the achievements were showcased through a
"Hand in Hand Exhibition," where everyone was led to practice four major martial arts. County
Magistrate Weng Chang-Lian personally participated in the training, demonstrating functional
movement screening (FMS) deep squats to promote the importance of stability and mobility training.
This reflects the county government's determination and also promotes the idea that a willingness to
take the initiative is necessary for good health and overall well-being.
In this training session, a total of 11 professional instructors were invited, including professors in the
fields of sports health promotion and gerontology, fitness professional coaches, industry fitness
lecturers, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists. CCU also engaged seasoned instructors who
have been deeply involved in the community for many years to contribute to teaching, aiming to
disseminate knowledge theories and experiences. Through selection, training, testing, skills
assessment, apprenticeship observation, community practical teaching assessment, study groups, and
subject assessments, a total of 50 precise sports instructors have completed 80 hours of training. This
training has cultivated core competencies in sports instruction, stimulated teaching innovation, and
continuously improved knowledge and skills, thereby contributing to social inclusion.
The Department of Athletic Sports at CCU reports that since September, over 52 communities have
participated in the 12-week "Precision Cross-Adaptability Basic Fitness" program, reaching a total of
1,510 participants. This year, freshmen who have overcome various challenges are considered ready
for immediate deployment and will be gradually matched to community services and guidance. They
will conduct tests including excessive squat, grip strength, static balance, and lower limb muscle
strength for 100 community locations. The data collected will be used as academic evidence. The
team will also host an academic symposium in 2024, aiming to elevate experiences from Chiayi to a
national level, demonstrating the well-founded data governance of the Chiayi County Government.
This initiative aims to implement local aging, active aging, successful aging, and productive aging,
highlighting the positive significance and value of reclaiming physical strength and living a bright
life.
